RKay Butler is an award-winning author, poet, screenwriter, photographer and documentary filmmaker. Over three decades in the film and television industry, she wrote two award-winning documentaries that aired on PBS. She co-authored and produced short films in New York and Atlanta, winning honors including Best Writing, Horror Category, in the NYC Midnight Madness Film Competition. RKay authored and co-authored several film and documentary scripts, including “Women in Time,” “The Gullah Curse,” and “Echota,” all currently in development. RKay is a past president of Women in Film and Television Atlanta. She also has the honor and distinction of being elected as a founding member of the International Board of Directors of Women in Film and Television International.
In October 2001 as the world reeled from 9/11, RKay began a personal journey of grief when her father was murdered. Out of that arose her first book, Love, Katydid, a raw and haunting collection of poetry and images dedicated to her father. The journey has now also inspired her new book, Merlin Speaks: Wisdom from Camelot on Life, Honor, and How to Make a Good Cup of Tea.
Nowadays she blogs sometimes funny, sometimes thoughtful words at www.rkaybutler.com/blog/. When not wandering the world with camera in hand, RKay lives on top of Sand Mountain in north Alabama where she watches the sun rise and set from her backyard and tries to keep the cows and armadillos out of her garden.
